Have you ever thought about the impact a smile can have on someone’s life? I’m usually a smiley person but sometimes I’m just not in the mood.
I did a little smile experiment the other day and here is the story of just one of the many people I smiled at…..
I was going through the airport on Friday afternoon with my husband to catch our flight to San Antonio, TX and I made a point to smile at others. I saw one woman with pretty crazy bright red hair and her shoes matched. As we waited for our zone to be called, I noticed her carry on bag was pretty large. I thought, “yeah, that’s not going to work out for her.” And….it didn’t.
I wasn’t sure what all of her circumstances were but she was pulled out of the line to check her bag. She was clearly frustrated and confused.
As I walked by her to hand the agent my boarding pass, I touched her arm gently, smiled, and told her her hair was amazing. Then, when she looked at me I saw her eyes filled with tears. She returned my smile and told me that she “really needed to hear that today.”
Dale Carnegie really explains the power of the smile:
“A smile is nature’s best antidote for discouragement.
It brings rest to the weary,
Sunshine to those who are frowning,
And hope to those who are hopeless and defeated.
A smile is so valuable that it can’t be bought,
Begged, borrowed, or taken away against your will.
You have to be willing to give a smile away
Before it can do anyone else any good.
So if someone is too tired or grumpy to flash you a smile,
Let him have one of yours anyway.
Nobody needs a smile as much
As the person who has none to give.”
So, if you are one of the many people in the world that need a smile right now, I hope this email brings you one. I am smiling as I type it if that helps send one virtually. 🙂
I don’t know about you but I struggle with wanting to succeed in all aspects of my life and the reality is we can only do so much! I sat down and wrote a list of things I am working on and striving to do. Then, I created a group because I know we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with.
I created the FB group “D.O.E.R.S.” as a safe, motivational place for people like us to spend time together. So, if you are this person, I’d love to connect with you.
1. Want to improve your overall wellness both physically and emotionally.
2. Want less stress and more enjoyment in life.
3. Want to succeed in your business or profession while staying true to who you are. (Being a stay at home parent counts!)
4. Want to get yourself out of debt.
5. Want to stay true to your top priorities in your life. (ex. Faith, Spouse, Children, Work, Activities)
6. Want to give back to your community and/or the world and support those in greatest need.
7. Want to continually work to improve yourself through learning.
These are all the things I want to work on. If these things resonate with you like they do with me, I’d love to connect with you. I’m chipping away at improving myself every day. Sometimes it feels like two steps forward and one step back but as long as we keep moving together we’ll get there!

P.S. If there is no one around you to smile, grab your bottle of Joy and rub a drop over your heart, cup your hands over your nose and mouth and inhale deeply a couple of times. I do this to bring joy to my heart when I need it most.
