How to Remove Blackheads Naturally

February 11, 2014 By Kara 17 Comments

honey avocado facial scrub recipe

Ever wonder how to remove blackheads naturally without using harsh chemicals?

After reading several articles about the egg white mask that several people have tried I decided it was not a good idea!  For the last year I have been using a honey, brown sugar and avocado oil facial scrub that I’ve found to be very effective.  Blackhead removal was a surprise benefit to this facial scrub recipe.

Did you know that by adding essential oils like Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) to your cleansing routine you can help digest some of that nasty bacteria?  Subscribe to my FREE 14 day essential oils email series to learn all about the amazing benefits of essential oils.

The honey and small amount of water on your skin start to dissolve the brown sugar slightly. The point of this mask isn't to severely exfoliate your skin. Honey is a natural antibacterial. It is great for the treatment and prevention of acne. The avocado oil helps to moisturize your skin and has amazing anti-aging benefits. (Take a look at my anti-aging avocado facial here).

Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup organic brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp organic raw local honey
  • 1 tbsp organic avocado oil

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small mason jar or other container with lid.
  2. Wet face with warm water.
  3. Apply a small amount of mixture to your face with your fingertips.
  4. Gently massage skin with the mixture.
  5. Rinse off of your face with warm water and pat dry.

    Where should you store this?

I use it pretty quickly and I just store it in my bathroom. It is just honey and sugar and doesn’t need to be refrigerated!

My mum told me NOT to use pore strips. They strip and enlarge your pores and do more harm to your pores than help.
I would like to try lemon/honey though.
i find this page, what you think about it, Blackhead extractor

So I made this and wanted to love it…but I couldn’t get over the molasses smell 🙁 I think I will retry it using regular organic sugar. Other than the smell, I love the way it feels on my face. Thanks!

Sorry to hear that! I would try regular sugar then like you said. Same concept but minus that smell if it bothers you!

Is there something specific about the avocado oil that helps with the blackheads or is it just for its moisturizing properties? I use argan oil everyday, so was wondering about subbing it for the avocado oil. Thanks for the great idea.

The avocado oil works well for me for moisturizing and avocados have anti-aging benefits.

Not necessarily. I would make sure you have REAL honey though.

This is a very nice and detailed article, I really liked the way you explained it. Removing blackheads is really very annoying job for me, it require continuous efforts and I am quite lazy. By the way well written, Keep it up.

Is it supposed to be very hard and kind of pokie on your skin when you rub it in?? its thick and hard for me to use it because it doesn’t like soak into my skin like usual scrubs?? Is that normal. And my face was redish afterward…..:(

I rub very gently. My preferred scrub now is the Satin Facial Mint Scrub by Young Living. It has jojoba beads which are gentler.
