Once I started down this journey to a more toxic-free life I wanted to go “all in”. That is why I started making my own makeup.
Did you know?
1. The average woman absorbs 5 lbs of make-up chemicals PER YEAR.
2. Only 11% of 10,500 chemicals in cosmetics have been tested for safety.
Ingredients:
Unsweetened cacao powder
Nutmeg
Ginger
Ground Cloves
Ground Sage
Arrowroot Powder or Cornstarch as the base.
Essential Oils: Choose from Lavender, Myrrh, Sacred Frankincense, or Geranium.
This is where I bought the container I use in the video.
DIY is sooooo SIMPLE. Watch me make this recipe in the video below:

This is great!! Have you ever made a more cream type foundation? I find that powder doesn’t look the greatest on me anymore 🙁
Love your blog!

Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it. I am about to give that a try. 🙂 I will post an update once I do!
Kara
I am 🙂
If you look up how to repair broken makeup they say to use alcohol- you put the makeup back together, spray generously, press it together more so it forms one piece again, then let dry. Maybe you can use the alcohol to turn a loose into a pressed powder? It’ll probably take more time, but it could work.
Let me know how it goes!
I am very interested in this post. I am black so do you have any tips for what I would need to add to the recipe for my dark brown skin.
The information about absorbing shop bought make up is enough to make me stop using them.
So thank you.
Hi! Thanks for commenting. Depending on the darkness of your skin tone, I would look at a darker cocoa powder. I haven’t experimented with activated charcoal yet for this option but you could try a little in it.
Thanks!
Kara
I was wondering what kind of moisturizer you use before applying DIY powder foundation?
Hi! Thanks for the blog comment. I use Sheerlume by Young Living. It is is very smooth and not heavy. It is also referred to as a “brightening cream”. It helps reduce dark spots and has some essential oils in it for anti-aging benefits. Have you ever used Young Living products?

Thank you so much. Good luck with the powder!
Did you find that this powder lasted thought the day? I am in the process of switching out my makeup to chemical free and would love to know what you thought about it and if you had any other recipes for makeup!
Hi Sara! I LOVE it. I don’t wear a lot of makeup on my skin though. I’ve been using Young Living’s skincare line and it has helped even out my skin. 🙂 I have a video on it you can watch. http://www.lifesanity.com/6-steps-to-naturally-beautiful-skin/
If you are local to the Charlotte area, you can come to my next skincare class!
