According to the American Heart Association, one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese. That is almost TRIPLE what the rate in 1963. (source) As I travel through the Yorkshire area of England I’ve seen fewer overweight or obese children. This observation made me question the obesity rate comparison between the US and UK. According to the UK Department of Health, 30% of children are overweight. That puts the statistics in line with the US. (source) This was disappointing news! I’ve been so impressed by some of the parks available for the children with Navy SEAL style obstacle courses and some of the great options on the kids menus at the local pubs and restaurants. The food we’ve been purchasing at the local markets tastes much fresher than what I’ve found available at markets in the US as well. The only bad thing I’ve observed is a large consumption of ice cream. It seems like it is available at every turn. My views might be a little skewed since I AM hitting all the touristy spots! This is a topic I will be researching more once I’m back from my trip and I’ll post an update then! Check out the pictures of the parks below!
