Periscope Tools and Tips for Beginners

Professionals on Periscope

  1. Setup Your Profile:
    • Make sure you have your URL to your website in your bio. You can even use bit.ly to shorten.
    • Add some emojis to draw attention to your bio too.
    • Add key word hashtags to help people find you.
  2. Watch Other Broadcasters
    • Search and find others in your industry and how they broadcast.
    • Start interacting and commenting on when they broadcast.
  3. Create a Catchy Title for Your Broadcasts
    • Make it obvious what your broadcast is about.
    • Add emojis.
    • Use keywords that will draw people in, create a little mystery.
  4. Check Your Settings
    • Location Arrow– if you have location services on, with this arrow checked, then your location will be broadcast.
    • Lock Symbol– You can organize a private broadcast by inviting only those that you follow that you wish to broadcast with. Most broadcasts are usually public but this might be useful for some sort of special bonus or small group that you wish to speak with.
    • Speech Bubble Symbol– If you set this setting to “ON”, then only users that you follow can chat and comment on the broadcast – you can set this feature if you want to have a more exclusive chat with your followers only.
    • Twitter Post– you can have this function set to post an announcement of your broadcast to Twitter as you start the broadcast.
  5. Equipment (see details at LifeSanity.com/periscope)
    • Tripod: This is a great way to mount your iPad so you can avoid the camera shake. You may want this ball mount to mount that sits on top of the tripod and allows you to use the tripod for a variety of devices, including tablets. This here mounts on the Manfroto mount and holds iPads. It will also work with an iPad Mini.
    • Selfie stick
    • Clip on microphone.
    • Fancy lens and lighting optional.
  6. Broadcasting Tips
    • First Time: keep it short and do something natural.
    • Preparation: write down some notes about what you want to cover.
    • Screensaver: Hold something in front of your camera before you press “Broadcast” or point the camera at something interesting.
    • Slow Down: allow enough time for people to come on to the broadcast, to say hello to a few people, talk for a while and say goodbye. Just a few minutes is fine. Welcoming people is like giving people a chance to sit down and get comfortable.
    • Camera: It will take time to work out how the camera works.  To change camera direction from front to rear camera, just double tap the screen. There is a slight lag while the screen changes direction
    • Start Talking: as soon as you hit Start Broadcast if it is just to welcome people in!
    • Showing Your Face: You don’t have to! Just scope what YOU see. But, don’t forget to talk.
    • Answering Questions: As people comment they will ask questions. This can derail you from topic or cause you to lose focus. Let people know that you are welcoming them in and then will talk after. Focus on talking when you are talking and occasionally stop and then go back to chat. If you try to talk and respond to comments for the entire broadcast, you run the risk of sounding like you speak in half sentences. Spend some time to finish up at the end, again responding to chat/comments on screen and to say goodbye.
    • Involve Your Followers: have specific Q & A sessions or allow time at the end for this.
    • Hearts: Say “thank you for the hearts” or “I appreciate the hearts” but don’t beg for them.
    • Follow Me: tell people how to follow you.
    • Share Your Scope: tell people that they can share your scope. Ask them to swipe right (iOS) or swipe up (Android) to share the scope and invite viewers. They can share with specific people, all of their followers, or to Twitter. During a replay you can also swipe and share then too so that your followers can watch it within 24 hours.
  7. Topic Tips: Pick Your Passion
    • Pick the topic that you can talk about underwater.
    • Choose something you are passionate about. You will feel less like you are presenting and more like you are chatting with a friend. Turn on the camera and go for it.
  8. Be Consistent
    • The Scopers that are doing well have something special that is shining through – they are starting their scopes in a consistent way or giving tips about a consistent topic, wearing the same hat or glasses, or using similar welcome phrases and questions each time.
    • From what you wear to the phrasing you use (that should come naturally), to where you scope from… try to be consistent in some way.
    • Consistency breeds familiarity and we crave a sense of belonging. This is like reality TV on steroids.
    • Mix it up! Consistency is important but so is connecting with your audience. All business and no play is no fun.
  9. Periscope for Different Industries
    • Real Estate: Property tours, city tours, hot spots, new construction tours, tips and best practices. Client interviews and testimonials.
    • Construction: Renovation progress, building progress, tips and best practices.
    • IT: Helpful tips, troubleshooting, ideas.
    • Accounting: Tips and tools. Anything an individual would find helpful.
    • Investing: Again, tips and tools, success stories. Show people you know what you’re talking about in a fun way.
    • Product Driven: Demonstrations, tours of your facility or retail location, tips and tools, fun facts.
    • Coaching: Tips, success stories, interviews.
  10. Other Tips
    • Hot Tip: Have your settings set to save your scopes – then you can repurpose them and post them to other places later like Facebook or upload to YouTube. If you have this setting switched on, every scope will save to your phone by default. I love this option.
    • Data Warning: Periscope uses a lot of data so use WiFi when you can.
    • Airplane Mode: Your phone ringing will interrupt your scope (I’ve had this happen many times), so switch your phone to airplane mode, and then switch WiFi back on. There is also a Do Not Disturb function on most phones.
    • Special Landing Page: This is a fancy idea. If you have a website, create a special landing page just for Periscope topics and upload videos there. Here is the easy way…link your Periscope account to katch.me. It will automatically save all of your scopes there and you can share the link later! Mine is katch.me/karaLcozier

“People are sleepwalking through evil. They hav “People are sleepwalking through evil.

They have become so accustomed to the behavior of the dark and demonic that they hardly notice it, much less recognize if for what it is.

So many people have dismissed the existence of evil, recoiling from the very word.

Such arrogance is evil’s greatest asset.”
-Caroline Myss

This excerpt is powerful. Caroline continues to share more on this and what she says resonates with me and things I’ve been sharing here via FB Live and others posts. I’m also sharing over in my Telegram Channel.

When we get quiet and really listen we can see, hear, or feel the evil at work within us and within others.

We can also see the good working to overcome it.

Every moment we get to choose.

Each small choice illuminates our next steps. Our steps create a path.

Are you choosing a path of sleepwalking with evil or walking in faith with good?

You know how I talk about how God whispers to us? You know how I talk about how God whispers to us? It’s like whispers of divine inspiration, warnings, ideas, encouragement...

God: “Hey Kara, do you really think that’s a good idea?”

Me: “Hold my beer.”

God: “Kara, you’re doing it again. How did that work out for you last time?”

Me: “Hold my beer.”

God: “Kara, third strike, you’re doing it again...it keeps not working out this way...”

Me: “Hold my beer.”

God: [Throws brick to upset my plans and wake me up.]

Me: “Oh snap, what was I thinking??? Maybe it’s time to try a new approach...”

What’s a brick look like?

For me, bricks usually show up as an illness, or some sort of physical ailment like stubbing my toe, slipping and falling etc. Sometimes it’s my laptop or phone breaking. Bricks are meant to wake us up, snap us out of the hypnotic rhythm so we can choose to pivot.

I’m seeing God throwing some boulders right now.

I prefer whispers. Apparently the time for whispers has passed...

Don’t leave Social Media. Shift the narrative. Don’t leave Social Media.

Shift the narrative.

Flood the feed with what you WANT to see.

Post and go. 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃

I love you.
I accept you.
I see you.
You are worthy.
You are enough.
You are deserving.

We get to choose to shift the narrative.
Before you post, before you consume content; CHOOSE.

What are you feeding?
What do you want to starve?

Starve what you don’t want, feed what you want.

Collectively we could shift everything today.

What will you decide?

We all get to make decisions about our life and we We all get to make decisions about our life and we also get to live with the consequences of our choices.

All choices are on a journey of learning and growing—even the ones that make our journey a little harder.

I saw that a friend made a choice I am not in alignment with—it actually triggered me emotionally quite a bit.

I didn’t comment on it, I just sat with it for a while and examined WHY I felt the way I did. It revealed a lot to me about how
I feel about choices I’ve made. It was like looking in a mirror. I’ve been there before myself.

Now, hours later, I’m at peace with my friend’s choice. I won’t make the same one but I support my friend’s right to choose their path.

I will not shame my friend.
I will not argue with my friend, what is done is done, we simply move forward from here.
I didn’t I friend or unfollow, I just digested the feelings, received the lesson and moved on.

We all have choices to make in every moment and do the best we can with the information we have accepted. 💞

Choices have consequences and other people’s choices are not my responsibility.
