My sister sent me the above photos of a vending machine as a SPORTS facility she went to today. Here is the kicker, “no outside food or drink allowed.” You are actually expected to consume this junk! Yes, I’m one of those “real food” people. You know, the ones that think high fructose corn syrup is poison (well, it is), shop at the farmer’s market, and buy all that organic stuff. My kids are “deprived” of Slurpees and Oreos. Maybe you’re just like me or maybe I make you crazy. Either way, I TRY not to judge people based on their food choices and lifestyle but guess what, it happens. I’m not perfect and you know what? I’ve BEEN THERE! But I’m not there anymore and now that I KNOW how bad this stuff is I can’t always handle it. Here is how I cope. I basically say this to myself in my head when confronted with watching someone eat a twinkie:
Then, once that option fails me, I try REALLY hard to contain my disgust. You know, by controlling my facial features, looking away, maybe even running away. I don’t always catch myself in time…..
Back to the story about my sister….. She is HILARIOUS. Despite the “no outside food policy” she of course tried to bring in her own food. She and I have the same affliction, we both get totally freaked out about food options when eating out. The conversation with the person at the front desk went something like this:
Front desk attendant: “Ma’am you can’t bring your food in”
My sister: “Oh ok, you offer gluten free, dairy free, organic snacks and water without added sodium?”
…and that’s how you get to bring your outside food in. I can just see the look on the person’s face. What the..?
Do YOU feel our pain?
